Érase una vez un sueño

The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference.

The opposite of art is not ugliness, it’s indifference.

The opposite of faith is not heresy, it’s indifference.

And the opposite of life is not death, it’s indifference.

Elie Wiesel

  1. I´m sorry but:

The opposite of life is death. Those are excluyent: A vegetable is indifferent from what surrounds it and it is alive.
The opposite of art isn´t ugliness nor indifference. It is nature, because art is the result of modification of the environment (Consult a dictionary if you have doubts)
The opposite of faith is not indifference, It´s rationality. Faith comprehends what can not be demonstrated. The reason gets the opposite way, trying to make inferences from what is known.
The opposite of love is not indifference, it´s egoism. You can alternate indifference with love. The pass between egoism and love is so much wider.

  2. I’m really sorry but:

Life is not the opposite of death, simply because death is part of life. The definition of a organism (living thing) is: needs to be born, grow up, reproduce and die. So death is part of life. A vegetable is not indifference from what surrounds it, because it needs to be feed from it.

“Art is the process or product of deliberately and creatively arranging elements in a way that appeals to the sense or emotions” (definition). Yes, it is the modification of the environment, but the modification that produces an emotion. If you see something that produce indifference (the opposite of produce emotions), it is not art.

It is possible that you don’t love, and that you are not egoism, they are not opposite. Love contain different levels, love to one self, love to the couple, love to the rest of humans… If you eliminate any level, it is not love.

With the faith, I think you are right, but as the quote (I’m not 100% with Elie Wiesel) was nice, I didn’t want to destroy it 🙂
